Adam studied BEng Chemical Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University. As part of the course, he undertook a year-long placement with Glass Technology Services as an Assistant Technologist, with the focus being on the Enviroglass 2/BiomAsh projects looking at waste biomass ash and the potential for alternate glass batch materials. During this time, Adam also worked closely alongside Glass Technology Services' spinout company VitriTech, to aide in the upscaled manufacture of a glass product for the oil and gas industry.

Following the conclusion of his year-long placement, Adam returned to university to complete his studies. During his final year, he returned to the company on a part-time basis to gain more industrial experience whilst finishing his degree. Following the completion of his degree, Adam transitioned back into the full-time role of a Technologist. Due to increased experience, Adam now works not only as part of the R&D team, but also helps the Chemistry and Product Performance departments where needed.

Adams' work mainly consists of sample preparation and data analysis for projects, on both a grant funded and commercial basis.
